In Costa Rica until August 17th

I'm visiting a country that is one of only 18 in the world which doesn't have a standing military. (Costa Rica was actually the first country to abolish its military back in 1948). It does, however, have a Peace Army! Costa Rica is unique in the way that its Foreign Policy is rooted in the development of democracy and respect for human rights.

The little yellow line is the route from San Jose to my destination. I won't be blogging while I am there, but I will be taking notes on how it feels to be in a military-less country. Full report when I return.

  1. I have never heard of a Peace Army before! That's amazing something like that exists and how does one go about abolishing their military? I wonder why no one would want to take them over? Does peace prevail in this case? Oh and nice photoshopping skills! Looking forward to your full report!
